White Oak Creek Falls is a beautiful waterfall located along Middle White Oak Road in Boone County, not far from the town of Peytona. I have always loved this waterfall since visiting it because of the angled relatively smooth rock that White Oak Creek falls around 20 feet down over.

The only thing to keep in mind with this waterfall is that it IS on private property. I did not know this when I pulled off the side of Middle White Oak Road. The family of the landowners were actually enjoying the falls while I was there and told me I was welcomed to take some shots. They were very kind people. The trail from the side of the road down to the creek is a bit steep, but it is well used. I recommend bringing a pair of muck boots to get out into the middle of the creek for the best shots, otherwise, you will have some pretty sharp angled captures.

Also, if you have some time on your hands, there’s a nice small waterfall just downstream (photo attached), you can be at Drawdy Falls in 5 minutes, and there are some really nice stretches of the Big Coal River in the Peytona area that are quite beautiful.

To get to White Oak Creek Falls, take Exit 89 (WV 94) of the West Virginia Turnpike and drive west on Route 94 for about 10 miles. The road will then merge onto Route 3 and turn right, just as if you are going to nearby Drawdy Falls. Turn right off of Route 3 onto Costa Road and drive for 1.2 miles until you see Middle White Oak Road (119/01). Drive onto that road and in a quarter mile, the waterfall can be heard on your right. Keep in mind that there’s not a lot of parking here – maybe for two cars or so, but this is not a frequently-visited waterfall.
