What a beauty! Riggs Branch is a bit of a hidden waterfall along Route 60 in Fayette County just before the town of Glen Ferris heading east toward Gauley Bridge.
The waterfall is not viewable from Route 60 – it is behind the railroad tracks where Riggs Branch empties into the Kanawha River, so you’ll have to be careful making your way behind the tracks to the waterfall, as that is a very active railroad track, and the trains will be on you before you know it.
Riggs Branch is located off of Route 60 just before Kanawha Falls traveling east. There is a nice wide spot on the right side of the road just past the waterfall for you to park. You’ll then need to carefully cross Route 60 and then the corresponding railroad track adjacent to it. Once you cross the track, you should be able to hear the waterfall. This waterfall, along with many others in this general area do dry up during hot and dry seasons – but they flow beautifully after a good rain!
