In my opinion, Elakala Falls is one of the most picturesque falls in our region. It is the first of four waterfalls on Shays Run in Tucker County within Blackwater Falls State Park. This waterfall is very easy to access, as there is a well-maintained trail to view the falls from below, as well as a very nice walkway to view from above. Each waterfall along Shays Run gets a little harder as you head down the waterway toward where it empties into the Blackwater River. The waterfall usually always has a nice swirl or two that you can capture even with the inexpensive device that I use, and the moss makes for a wonderful color composition, as shown below.
There are multiple ways to get to the town of Davis, WV in Tucker County. Once you make it to the town, turn onto Route 29 (Blackwater Falls Road) for 2.6 miles. Then turn left onto Route 29/1 (Blackwater Lodge Road) for 1.5 miles. During this trek, the road will turn left slightly and become Park Forest Road 803. You can park at the lodge, and the trail will be on your left!
