This waterway off of Laurel Creek in Fayette County alludes me! It’s quite the series of drops that tower around 40 feet in total, but there’s nothing listed online that indicates that it is an actual creek or stream. Nonetheless, I have been by this area along Route 16 and have seen this waterfall many times. The water in Laurel Creek at this location is usually too swift for me to get any closer than the shot I have, but I plan to explore this waterfall more and learn more about it in the future. In the meantime, it’s easily viewable from Route 16 (walk carefully as this is a busy highway), and you can drop off the roadway down level to the creek for a better view. I would wait for the water in Laurel Creek to be flowing on the light side before attempting a cross. Be very careful if you decide to do so – the water is deep and swift!

Because the waterway is not named and I’ve never seen a name for the waterfall itself, I’ve dubbed it the name ‘Beckwith Branch’, since it is very close to the small community of Beckwith in Fayette County.

Beckwith Branch is located across Laurel Creek from WV-16 in Fayette County. To locate it, drive approximately 2.5 miles south on WV-16 from the WV-16/US-60 intersection at Chimney Corner. There is not a lot of parking opportunities in this area, but there is one spot near it on the right side of the roadway heading south that will fit a couple of cars, which is typically where I park. There are several other waterfall capturing opportunities in this area! I plan to investigate this waterfall more soon, with more photos for the website!
